What is a domain transfer?

The domain transfer is a very common operation that consists of transferring the domain from one registrar or provider to another.
With this change, all the administration procedures for your domain will have to be carried out through the new provider (DNS changes, contacts, zones, etc.).

How can I transfer a generic domain like .COM or .ONLINE?

Before you start, check that you have access to the registrant’s contact account to be able to confirm the transfer. You can also ask your current provider to unblock it and for the auth-code to begin the transfer process. Check this account by running a WHOIS lookup or by contacting your current provider.
You also have to verify that your domain has not been registered or renewed within the previous two months.
Request unlocking and authcode
All you have to do is ask your current provider for the unlocking and the authcode to start the transfer process from this page. The authcode is a security code that prevents the unauthorized transfer of your domain.
Confirm the transfer
In around 24 hours, you will receive an email confirming the transfer. Therefore, it is very important that you closely monitor the registrant’s contact account of your domain.
And ready!
The transfer process will be completed within 4 or 5 days without your domain being affected.
Keep in mind that in gTLDs, if you make a change of holder, the domain is blocked for 60 days and it is not possible to transfer it.

How can I transfer my .ES domain?

To transfer your .ES domain to dinahosting, you must obtain an AuthCode from your current service provider and approve the transfer from RED.ES (the organisation that manages .ES domains).

Request your domain's unlock and AuthCode
To start the transfer process to dinahosting, first ask your current provider to unlock your domain and provide you with its AuthCode.
Go to RED.ES and accept the transfer
Once your request has been submitted, RED.ES will send you an email so that you can access its platform and accept or reject the transfer.
To log on, the platform will require your NIC-HANDLE and password:
- El NIC-HANDLE es el identificador asociado al contacto administrativo del dominio. Puedes consultarlo en el Whois del dominio, dentro del apartado de “Persona de contacto administrativo”, concretamente en “Identificador”.
- If you do not know your password, you have the option to recover it from the RED.ES website by entering your NIC-HANDLE. You will receive an email at the account associated with this contact person to set a new password.
Once you have your NIC-HANDLE and password, click on the link provided by RED.ES and continue with the acceptance of the transfer.

When you accept the transfer, the switch will take place within approximately 24 hours. Throughout the process, your domain will continue to work as usual, and neither your website nor any associated services will be affected.

How can I verify the transfer of my domain?

To check the status of your domain transfer, go to your Control Panel, to the section Transfers in process. By clicking on Transfers you will be able to check in what state your domain is. If it is in process, you will only have to wait for the next step or for it to finish, but if it is rejected, you will have to review the reasons before relaunching the request again. In this post we explain in detail what you should do.

Is it necessary to change the owner or the DNS of the domain in the transfer?

You do not need to modify the holder or DNS during the transfer. With the transfer you only change the provider, the owner will remain the same and the DNS as well.

What happens if the domain I want to transfer is busy or expired?

If the domain you want is busy we recommend that you look for an alternative extension, we have more than 400 TLDs to choose from!
If not, the only ways to obtain an occupied domain are to contact the owner to try to acquire it or, in the event that your trademark rights are being violated, take legal action.
On the other hand, you can only make transfers of active domains, if the domain is expired it will not be possible to transfer it.
